چکیده

Antipsychotics (APs) are psychotropic drugs that generally have a psycholeptic effect, capable of reducing psychotic symptoms and psychomotor agitation. This class is widely used in psychiatric practice, especially for the treatment psychosis schizophrenia other disorders. Most APs pass through biotransformation process, or metabolism, after they enter body before being eliminated. There three phases AP metabolism. Cytochrome P450 (CYP) monooxygenase (mixed-function oxidase) plays central role most biotransformation. CYP’s functional activity depends on gene–drug drug–drug interaction influences occurrence adverse drug reactions (ADRs). So, it extremely important practicing psychiatrist to know oxidation pathway APs, since them metabolized liver. both prevent ADRs avoid unwanted interactions, which will undoubtedly increase effectiveness safety therapy.
